Because the spider plant doesn't have any interesting updates or happenings i decided to just do a little research and look into some info on the spider plant.
So here are some fun facts on the spider plant...I liked how descriptive the writer was- made it really entertaining.

  • Spider plant, also known as airplane and ribbon plant, has long grasslike leaves often with a white stripe down the middle.
  • The spider plant produces rosettes of arching, grasslike leaves and long, hanging flower stems with insignificant white flowers. Plantlets develop on the hanging stems and give the plant its common names. The most common variety has apple-green leaves striped in white, but there is also an all-green version.
  • The thick roots of the spider plant quickly fill all available space, rendering efficient watering difficult. It is best to take the plant to the sink to let it soak in water.-How Stuff Works.com

So this week I wanted to sort of compare my spider plant with some full grown spider plants...
I did some research online and came across pictures like this one on the right.  It seems that my spider plant and Claires as well is sort of growing slowly, but eventually will look like this one on the right.  The full grown spider plant looks extremely green and especially leafy! I think that in order to keep our plants healthy we will need to keep a little better attention to them in order to get them to eventually reach their full grown potential of looking like this wonderful full grown spider plant.

March 16th Week.
An update on the combined plants... so far so good. The two spider plants seem to be living well together in their single habitat (aka the Orange pot).  They almost seem to be looking greener and healthier than ever.  Also this week the plants got a surprise! A BABY! The plant, was a gift to Claire and has now taken its place next to the coexisting spider plants.  We will see what happens to the baby and make sure to take extra special care of it since we don't know exactly how much water/sunlight it needs.
The plant family continues to grow on our small shelve near the stairs....we will see what happens next...

combined spider plants= ONE POT.

Because it is getting closer to the end of the semester. Claire and I wanted to do a little experimenting with our plants.  Since they were living right next to each other already, we thought it might be interesting to combine both of the plants into the one pot.  I am hoping that both of the plants will survive and thrive within the single pot.  I am excited and curious to see what happens to my spider plant and claires as well.
-they are now closer than ever!!
-wait to see what happens next...

Spider plant week before spring break!

The week before spring break I decided because the spider plant now has a new friend, which has also recently been placed in a nice orange pot, the decorations should mimic the plant.  The decorations now include two birds, just like the two plants.  The Bird is another stencil I created and then spray painted and I think that it fits nicely with the spider plant.  The bird decorations are helping even more with creating a better and more creative home environment for the plant to grow and prosper.

Update

Due to the beautiful weather and amazing heat wave my little plant friend has greatly benefited.  I have noticed the little plants better posture and more vibrant coloring.  The sunshine has helped keep my plant alive and has aided my awareness of my little friend once again, as the sunshine reminds me of spring/summer time which I always associate with the blooming of flowers.  The sunshine and heat wave has even helped make my plant grow, I have noticed it getting taller within the past month, but have noticed an even greater amount this past week and a half as it has gotten more sunshine and less cold bleak weather.

Spider plant gets a friend- February 9, 2011

February 9, 2011
Spider plant update...
This week
I placed my friends plant
alongside my little spider plant
this way it follows along with my
                                    original plan and my plant
can have a little friend
to keep it company
when it is feeling lonely
during the day. The
environment is starting
to look brighter and
more vibrant, which
is what I intended!
